Zed Champions is the upcoming stable management game from VHS that allows players to own, manage, breed and race digital horses for a chance at prestige and prize money.

At the heart of the game is a community of stable owners competing to rise to the top of an exclusive 4,320 horse racing pool.
To achieve success, strategy is key.

Initially a stable owner needs to carefully select the right breeding pair in order to create the strongest foal possible.
Bloodline characteristics along with the unique traits and previous race data of each parent help them make that decision.

Once the new breed begins its racing career the owner has to consider which “augments” (attachments) to apply to the foal in order to enhance its ability.
This information can be found by looking for visual clues as they watch the horse race.
Good breeding paired with astute augment strategies equals optimal performance on the track.

But that’s not all there is to it.
In Zed Champions, the big wins only come to players that are willing to take big chances.
To reach the top of the leaderboard and maximise profits players have to push their horses to the limit to find out just how good they really are.

Horses start their journey with 50% of their breed cost as an internal balance, wagering 10% of that balance every time they hit the track. (Twice daily)
As they climb the leaderboard they face stiffer and stiffer competition as their internal prize purse grows.
With more and more money on the line the risk vs reward decision becomes more difficult.
Do they continue racing, chasing bigger prizes but risking bigger losses?
OR do they retire said horse and unlock the prize money it has already earned?
You could say retiring a horse at its peak is the aim of the game.
BUT withdraw too early and you may fall short of the weekly or seasonal rewards on offer and the glory that comes along with being a seasons champion.

If this sounds exciting to you then come and join me for the open Beta that begins on March 31st.
The Beta is free to play and there will be rewards and prizes that could help you build a stable in the full release of the game that is launching shortly after Beta closes.
There are still some bugs being ironed out but the game is getting closer to launch ready and it’s a lot of fun.

If you enjoy the Beta and want to take it a step further there are currently in game badges for sale that are basically ready built stables which will equip you with everything you need for the first season of Zed Champions.
These include racing horses, breeding horses and reZed Tokens for breeding and in game purchases.

I was a stable owner in Zed Run the original Web3 horse racing game for the past 4 years and have since been an Alpha and Beta tester for Zed Champions.
I post regular content about Zed and I will be sharing my Zed Champs stable journey along with tips and info as I learn the game.

For returning readers, transitioning Zed Run stables and new players alike we have a lot to be excited about guys.
We have a leader with a track record for success (Nir Efrat) and a passionate team made up of people that understand both Web2 and Web3 gaming.
Not to mention more experience and data to draw on than anyone else in Web3 thanks to the trials and tribulations of the original Zed Run.

Drawing from that experience the Champs team are creating a groundbreaking in game economy.
The use of the upcoming Zed Picks sweepstakes app as a “crypto free” growth engine, player funnel and revenue source is a stroke of genius if it works as planned.
It could be absolute rocket fuel for the whole eco system.

In Zed Champions, Zed Token is finally being given a chance to thrive as a crucial component of the game.
It’s fully integrated as the official in game currency, complete with Tokenomics that seem to have been mapped out in a holistic way.
This is demonstrated by the inclusion of a second token (reZed) that allows for some freedom to offer player rewards and player acquisition incentives without having to dilute the value of the core token.
I think this is a great idea, especially when considering what was required to transition players from the old game into the new economy.

The mechanics of the game itself, though still incomplete in Beta, seem to have been very thoughtfully considered.
The game is looking slick and it’s fun to play which is ultimately what we want if VHS is looking to attract players and not just crypto speculators.
That said, the allure of making money is crucial to a game like this and that feature is still baked in.
In the recent Beta I’ve seen a horse increase its breed cost by over 1,000% in just 22 races.
My feeling is the top of the leaderboard is going to become high stakes racing quite quickly.

To touch on some of the other in game mechanics briefly, the horse population growth issues that were prevalent in the original Zed Run have been addressed comprehensively with capped breeding and reforging (burning to breed).
The breeding auction feature makes securing a stud very exciting while also opening up access to quality breeds to all stables.

With a growth in player numbers, the 4,320 slots of a 1 in 1 out racing pool should create a feeling of prestige and scarcity.
Racing is automated so the clickfest that old Zed Run players were used to (and tired of) is gone.
I also hear Champs will celebrate its biggest stables and incentivize content creation and brand building which should make being part of the game community a whole lot of fun.
As will the inclusion of incentivized spectators.

Speaking of fun, regular bounties are a welcome addition to the new game that should keep the casual players engaged.

Another change we’ve seen for the new game is the switch from Polygon to BASE.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding BASE at the moment and I think the choice to build Zed Champs on that chain was a great decision.
Champs could see an influx of new players just from being the big dog on BASE.

Lastly I’d also like to mention something else that I think is going to be crucial to the success of Zed Champions.
That’s the open mind of the development team when it comes to shaping the game.
Through the Alpha and Beta testing I can confirm they are responsive to player feedback and open to discussion and reasoning.
This is going to be vital long term.
Some requested changes have been implemented so far and we’re promised there is a raft of requested features and additions coming in season 0 and beyond.

So for me it’s time to get addicted to digital horse racing all over again.
I hope to see you on the track!
